Hi Reader! π I had this moment in the bathroom last Tuesday morning. I was leaning toward the mirror to put in an earring, and I caught my reflection under that particular slice of morning light that shows you everrrrrrrything. π«£π«£π«£ I stood there for a second and thought - hmm, when did my skin start looking like this? Not older. Not bad. Justβ¦ tired. Flat. Like it wasn't quite awake, even though I was. It was the first time I really LOOKED at my skin in awhile, like actually looked closely! π€£π€£π€£ If you've had a version of that mirror moment recently, you're not imagining it. And you're not doing something wrong. Summer can do this to skin! Tis the season... Four specific things start happening at once: The dullness creeps in. That "why does my skin look tired even when I'm not" feeling isn't in your head - sun exposure, sweat, chlorine, and just living in more UV wears the surface of your skin down. Dead cells build up faster. Light doesn't bounce off your face the way it does when your skin is fresh. Dehydration shows up as fine lines. This one gets women confused because we think fine lines = aging. In summer, most of the fine lines you're seeing are actually dehydration lines. Your skin has lost water content from sweat, from AC, from spending more time outside, from drinking rosΓ© instead of water because it's June - and when skin is dehydrated, every existing line looks worse than it is. Your makeup stops sitting right. That foundation that felt perfect in April is suddenly sinking into places it wasn't sinking. It's not the makeup. It's that your skin underneath has changed. You look tired even when you're not. This is the one that gets me. You had a great night's sleep, you feel fine, and yet you lookβ¦ off. Puffy in some places, flat in others. Not like yourself. None of this is about aging. None of it is about doing something wrong. Your skin is simply telling you it needs something different than it did in April. That's it. That's the whole message. I think it's important to chat about this. Just an honest conversation about what's actually happening to your skin right now, why it's happening, and what to actually do about it. No quick fixes this week. No products. Just this: if you've been feeling the summer slump, you're not alone, you're not aging faster than you should! Hi Reader! π Last week we talked about the SSS (Summer skin slump) π€£ That mirror moment, the dullness, the fine lines that seem new, the tired look that isn't tiredness. This week I want to talk about why most of us can't fix it. Here's the pattern I've seen a hundred times, from women in the community, from friends, from myself years ago. You notice something about your skin. You research. You find a product that promises to address it. You buy it. You use it for a month, maybe two. You feel...
Hi Reader! π You've been getting these emails from me for a while now or maybe you are new (we have a lot of new faces around here, welcome!!!) and I realized recently that I may have never actually introduced myself to you. Not really. Not the part that matters. So today is that - here goes! A proper introduction. π I want to tell you why I do this work. I lost my mom to cancer when I was 29. There's a particular kind of unmaking that happens when you lose your mother young. The world you...
